Boosting the Signal: Mississippi Personhood Amendment

Originally posted by [livejournal.com profile] box_in_the_box at Boosting the Signal: Mississippi Personhood Amendment
Previously posted by [livejournal.com profile] bitemetechie at Boosting the Signal: Mississippi Personhood Amendment:

Mississippi is voting on Nov. 8 on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment." This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status.

Putting aside the issue of abortion, this would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages.

Jackson Women's Health Organization is the only place women can get abortions in the entire state, and they are trying to launch a grassroots movement against this amendment. This doesn't just apply to Mississippi, as Personhood USA, the group that introduced this amendment, is trying to introduce identical amendments in all 50 states.

What's more, in Mississippi, this amendment is expected to pass. It even has Mississippi Democrats — including the Attorney General, Jim Hood — backing it.

If you sometimes pass on political action, make an exception on this one. The mainstream media is not reporting on it. If ever there's a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it.

What to do?

• Read up on it. Wake Up, Mississippi is the home of the grassroots effort to fight this amendment. Daily Kos also has a thorough story on it.

• If you can afford it, you can donate at the site's link.

• You can contact the Democratic National Committee to see why more of our representatives aren't speaking out against this.

• Like this Facebook page to help spread awareness.

Underwear

OK costumers, what is your favorite pattern/layout for a Ren chemise? Neckline drawstring, gathered, ruffled or banded?  Gussets or not?  Cuffs open, gathered, ruffled or banded?  I'm curious what other folks do, perfer, wouldn't make again, etc.

I need at least two new ones and am uninspired.

Monday Mutterings

What a FULL weekend.

Friday: Burbon and Branch for drinks (awesome will go again) then up the street to Cortez for one of the best  meals I've ever had.  Followed with rum, Sake (the author not the drink) and a fantastic view of the city lights.

Saturday: T I R E D.  Took le car in for 2 new tires (ouch), birthday gift shopping, then party/dinner with fremerly group.  Nice and relaxed, but I pooped out early.  Or so I thought.  Got home and couldn't fall asleep til 1:00. 8~/

Sunday:  Full of FIGHTING!  Whoo hoo.  Started off kinda weird (I was the only missile combatant of a 20+ TOTAL fighter event) but just kicked back and let it flow.  Boy am I outta shape.  But physical play is the best form of exercise.  Home again, shower and back over to fremerly's house to finish off the birthday dinner leftovers and play games.

Too cool.  Wanna do it again next weekend.

Organic!

I've been wanting to sign up for one of those delivered to your door fruit/veggie product programs.  When we were at the Alamdea Fair last weekend, I did just that!  And I got my first shipment yesterday.  Such georgous produce, I just wanna go home and cook!  Box included cherries, necturines (pleasingly tart), corn, carrots, beans, summer squash and fresh basil.

Unfortunately I'm booked for dinners until Sunday!  (not that that's a bad thing)  We did munch some cherries and a necturine last night.  But I'm concerned the basil won't last til Sunday.  I'm gonna try to make pesto with it tomorrow and then utilize it in Sunday's dinner.

Yummy!

I am stunned.

NO ON 8!

Please consider copying this sentence into your livejournal if you are (or would be) in a heterosexual, non-same-sex marriage, and you don't want it "protected" by the bigots who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.

Mrs. Bill Weasley

You like guys who are cool.  And not cool in that fake, dicky way, but actually cool.  He's so cool that they couldn't find any actor to adequately portray him, so they decided to just leave him out of the movies rather than risk not doing justice to his coolness.  He's like the Chuck Norris of Harry Potter: plain freaking awesome.  When Voldemort says "You-Know-Who", he's talking about Bill Weasley.

WTF?

I'm out of linen?  How can that be?  I've got a stockpile in my sewing room, years of acquistions, and no linen.  Hummmm.  And I'd already place a moratorium on myself for no frivolous spending this month.

Now what.

Update

So, no, I didn't get the sewing project done in time for Crown.  The sleeve pattern did not work out and rather than rework it I decided to use a pattern I've had success with before.  However, I did "something" different and even though I could tell it was off, I went ahead and sewing them into the bodice.  The good news is it will be fine once I redo the base sleeve.  The bad news is I have to rip out the sleeves and redo the base sleeve.

Other sewing news: I've altered my cotes, two worked, one didn't.  The one that didn't never really fit right anyway, so no big loss.  The blue one could come in even more, but for now it's fine.  Next up; my late Ren period dresses.  I usually keep a chunk of fabric from each project in case of repairs or such.  Hopefully I've got enough fabric to re-do the bodice(s) of those dresses that need atlering.  Sleeves and skirts won't need alteration.

I'm brewing again!  Forgot how easy it is and how much I enjoy it.  My 5 gallons of porter are busily burping away in the carboy.  All in prep for Erinwood.  Thankfully beanolc has bottles I can use.  I guess I'll have to reinvest in bottles in the near future.

Off to La Prova Dura this weekend, then it's all Erinwood prep til Memorial Day.

Fallen? Me?

Congratulations! You are Sariel

Sariel ("Command of God"): Working along side of Raguel, this angel is given the role of deciding the fate of angels which stray from God's path.

Sariel was also the Angel of Death.

It was claimed that Sariel was a healer like Raphael. Sariel is also credited as being an angel of knowledge, and one of the leaders in Heaven's armies, Sariel's name being written upon the shields of one of the fighting forces.

[Speculation] Though not recorded in fact, it was stated by some that Sariel was in fact one of the fallen rebel angels.
